A Cherished Thank You

My Byron Bay 8 day retreat has helped me find myself and I like her, she’s an amazing person thank you!
I’d like to thank all the wonderful people at Byron Yoga Centre…. Pippa was warm, calm, friendly, relaxed full of positive practical knowledge that has enriched my love for the yoga, life and my wellbeing My one on one time was very much appreciated and cherished thank you (for the building blocks of safe practise).

Nicole was fresh, bright, keen, passionate, helpful and full of knowledge that has also ingrained deep within me for the good positive wonderful things life has to offer.

Ross was calm gentle warm understanding has brought to me (shown) (taught) that its simple relaxation, it doesn’t take much to feel truly calm, relaxed and at peace with yourself. I loved restorative and nidra yoga, but once again it’s the chanting that wins hands down, the music is so soothing it touched my heart.

Caitlin with her bright blue eyes and wide, warming smile was so keen and deeply passionate about her surroundings -its infectious to the soul. I could see and feel her knowledge and joyous will to share and guide others. I loved her restorative and yin yoga classes (the legs up the wall, the fountain of youth pose!) plus the true bliss of the lighthouse walk.

Madhava helped ground me and made me aware in the moment, at peace. He was so full of great knowledge (I could connect) and see those qualities that were within him which brought comfort to me. I learnt that discipline – that’s the key!!!!

Kitchen staff – all gorgeous, friendly and amazing cooks. The meals were truly delicious, filling and fruitful for my health. I bloomed within and on the external (my face has cleared up), the cooking demonstration was true encouragement to embrace this healthy way of living.

The lovely gardener shared her sweet knowledge and passion which has also pulled me to embrace this productive way of growing preparing and experiencing the gorgeous garden.
The sweetest warmest kindest memorable person I won’t ever forget is the singing lady, whom loves life and embraces every opportunity with a positive warm hug. I felt loved thank you.

The Cleaning\garden staff were all totally warm, friendly, positive and happy in this wonderful infectious environment you have made. You are truly amazing thank you for this life changing experience.

I have been fortunate to have experienced several retreats at Byron Yoga & always leave wanting to return & with a renewed focus on life.

It is such a wonderful space to reconnect with yourself, pause, rest, reset, reenergise & reflect on what you want to invite more of into your life.

There is great balance of variety in the yoga from more dynamic to restorative options with very gifted & passionate teachers. The pranayama & mediations are particularly useful tools to use at home.

The setting is so tranquil, peaceful & healing with nourishing & yummy food coming straight from the gardens. You can feel the life of the food revitalising you with every meal.

You are surrounded by nature of the beach & national parks. You can really customise your own retreat, take a bike ride & explore Byron, relax by the pool chatting with like minded people or immerse yourself in the yoga & informative workshops. Then there’s the massage treatments!! Wow- they really help you to completely reset & find balance.

But it is really the people of the Byron retreat community that make it so special. The energy created by the nurturing, fun & passionate people who have just the right balance to respect your space for rest & help you grow & restore over the week.

It is the best gift you will give yourself!  You leave somehow both stronger & softer, more connected to yourself & the world around you.

Thank you Byron Yoga Centre for creating a truly amazing retreat space-forever grateful!! – Jo Hyde

My arrival to Byron Yoga Centre was not how I planned, arriving late due to a breakdown on my airport shuttle but greeted at the gate by the smiling staff I instantly felt the stress melt away as I looked around my new environment where I’d spend the next 20 days.

After meeting the other participants and teachers and looking at the schedule I suddenly realised this was not going to be the yoga retreat my friends and family imagined I was on, it was going to be hard work both physically and mentally. And this was confirmed when my alarm went off the next morning and it felt like it was still the middle of the night. As the sun came up I sat with a cup of tea listening to the birds singing in the surrounding bush, this really is such a peaceful time of the day.

I felt I had everything I needed here yet everything was very simple. The food in particular was simple yet healthy and very tasty and with much of it coming from the onsite garden it felt very virtuous. After a long hot day filled with study and yoga classes a dip in the pool was a welcome relief. And with options of beautiful Kirtans or peaceful Yoga Nidras before bed it was the perfect antidote to studying hard.

During the course I learned so much about my own asana practice, alignment, anatomy, the yogic philosophy, whole food but also I learned a lot about myself. I don’t think we could have come as far as we did without the support and inspiration of the teachers, who seemed to work as hard as we did!

My experience has changed the way I view my own practice. Rather than desperately trying to get my head to touch the floor and for someone to notice how well I was doing my new challenge became learning that it is about the journey not the destination. I now find that my practice is about so much more than the postures, I focus more on my breath and can be more attune to what’s going on inside my body. I’ve also become much more aware of the link between physical and emotional in yoga, our strength and our balance when cultivated on the mat also help us become stronger and more balanced in our daily lives.

The philosophy of yoga has a special place in my heart and I believe it’s something we should be teaching the world and loved that this was included in our schedule. We discussed topics such as; compassionate living (for yourself and others), freedom from possessiveness and envy, moderation in all things, generosity, truthfulness, purity of body and mind, motivation, inner contentment, study of the self, breathing, concentration and meditation.

This is when I realised yoga does not stop when you leave the mat, in fact it begins at that point, we should aim to take the practice into our daily lives. Learning to be grateful for what we have rather than always wanting more, living simply, letting go of our attachment to things and ideals and learning to turn inwards to still our busy minds and be at peace.

The 20 days went so fast and when it was time to leave I wasn’t sure that I wanted to. The group of like minded people I’d taken this journey with had now become friends for life and for the first time ever I felt like I’d found my tribe. So I am now a qualified yoga teacher but I’m so much more after this experience, I have grown as a person as well as a yogi and whilst I may have achieved a certificate, it’s not the end of my journey, just the start, the beginning of a new chapter.

I attended my very first yoga retreat at BYC in 2016.  I remember arriving feeling so overwhelmed and vulnerable, that I almost turned around and went back home.

But then I met my beautiful hosts for the week, the absolutely gorgeous Caitlin and Nicole, they made me feel so welcome and by the end of the first day, I knew I had found something very special.

I realised that BYC was more than just yoga and meditation, it was a place to come and be nurtured holistically.

As the days passed, I began to feel amazing, I was nourishing myself on every level,  not only was the yoga and meditation classes helping me to relax physically, it was teaching me to slow down and connect with my spiritual side, and with that came a calmness that I had never felt before.  The Sattvic meals were an absolute highlight, and by the end of the week after eating such pure, clean food, I felt so much better, with more energy and a real sense of wellbeing. I felt like I was glowing from the inside out!

It was also lovely to have the afternoons to myself and either have some much appreciated quiet time wandering through the beautiful gardens, reading a book, or indulging in one of the amazing treatments that are included.

The retreat hosts and staff are a group of such different people from all over the world, but they manage to provide a unique environment that is so warm, friendly and welcoming,  it feels like a big happy family.

I have since completed two more retreats and each time I leave, I come away with more knowledge and inspiration than before.   I have been able to implement many of the things I have learnt into my everyday life, and feel I am living a much happier and healthier life.

Byron Yoga Centre is a truly magical place.
